The original settlement was probably built around the 8th century and, as it can be seen today, little has changed from when it was a hamlet in the Tuscany countryside inhabited by a small community. The chapel in the centre of the square, the surrounding houses, e narrow little streets, the small churches, the Romanic church and the palace which belonged to the owners of the village, the Taja family which ruled this part of Tuscany up to the 18th century.  In 1991, after careful restoration, the village was transformed into a prestigious multi-site hotel.
